Carrying out your Game Plan
Had meeting with our technology person and learned that all small boards have been assigned. He will allow me to use after school is out for the day. What I plan on doing is going into a classroom that has one and speak teacher to possible observe her while she uses this tool. Another avenue I could take is to see when there are trainings on the smart board and possible sign up. I will be working on a career plan for my students so the next step would be to find videos that depicts the various careers they might choose, I have found a good tool that allows me to download videos from You tube. Our school has blocked access so this is necessary. I realize that there are many useful videos on You tube. It can be found at freemake.com

Judi,
ReplyDeleteYou still have to post your GAME plan. What ISTE standards are you working on? Have you looked into using Teacher Tube or Vimeo?
Thanks our county has firewalls up so we cannot access teacher tube at school. Plan on checking into both of them.
DeleteJudith,
ReplyDeleteThis past week, I was able to make a good amount of progress regarding the SMARTboard portion of my GAME plan because I had my students show me how to use it. While I stood at the board, students remained in their seats and told me what to do so that I could experience the board on my own. During each subsequent period, each class showed me something new so that I was able to build upon my skills. Therefore, in one day, I was able to learn the basics and realized that the SMARTboard is incredibly easy to use. Of course, I have much more to learn, but my students taught me what I needed to get started. Have you considered asking your students for help? They love being the teachers, for once! Or, if you feel more comfortable working with a colleague, I suggest that you stand at the board and use it yourself while your colleague gives you verbal instructions. That way, you will have a hands-on experience and may remember more for your next session. Try to keep in mind something that has helped me: your SMARTboard screen is just like a computer screen and includes the same functions. Also, keep your hands off the screen. Just use your fingertips and the included "markers." Good luck!

I will definitely be polling my students on Monday. I had a student help me with text viewer last week. I had problem positioning the text so that it showed well on the screen. She said 'Ms. Hall-Rose I am good at this' and indeed she was. Last week we had testing so that put a halt on the training..
DeleteHello Judith,
ReplyDeleteI am curious to know more about your project as well. Have you considered looking into digital portfolios for your students? Last year, I had my juniors create a portfolio either as a college focused one or a career focused on. I learned about a few places that allowed students to create digital portfolios where they could actually make their portfolio "interactive". I gave my students the option to do both (primarily because of my concern with privacy issues when posting that sort of information online). There are quite a few out there, though a good many charge. I have had students locate free ones and I can certainly share those links with you (once I locate them).
Megan, thanks I really look forward to receiving that info from you. I have in the past steered my students towards a power point presentation of the novel study. I am always open to suggestions.
DeleteHey Judith,
ReplyDeleteI am also new to the smart board. I have not done much with mine but my students have helped me out a lot. They are not afraid of breaking anything and is willing to touch all buttons if necessary. I have signed up for some training in the very near future and I will keep you in mind to pass on some knowledge if possible. I have certainly not gotten to the point to assign my students such projects and maybe because of the population of students that I teach. We have done some internet searching as a whole class only with lots of monitoring from me. They have not yet earned independence on the web because of past mistakes. I hope to do something more interested with them soon.
Thanks would welcome any assistance.
